The much awaited Barcelona v Manchester United takes place tonight in the United States. After beating Bayern Munich in the Audi Cup, Barcelona will face a Manchester United team hungry for more success, regardless as to whether it is a friendly or not. Though, there will be no Messi, Mascherano or Alves, the Barcelona team will be tough to beat. Their 25-man squad looks like this: Goalkeepers: Valdés, Pinto and Masip Defenders: Puyol, Muniesa, Piqué, Balliu, Rosell, Maxwell, Fontàs, Abidal Midfielders: Busquets, Keita, Riverola, Thiago, Iniesta, Carmona, Xavi, Dos Santos Forwards: Cuenca, Soriano, Afellay, Jeffren, Pedro, Villa Tonight, we could be seeing a line-up of: Valdes, Puyol, Piqué, Maxwell, Busquets, Keita, Thiago, Abidal, Afellay, Pedro and Villa. As for the Manchester United line-up, it could be either: ----------------De Gea------------------ -Rafael--Smalling----Vidic------Evra---- -----------Carrick----Giggs------------- -----Nani------Anderson-------Young--- ----------------Rooney-------------------
or ----------------De Gea------------------ -Rafael--Smalling----Jones-----Fabio---- -----------Carrick----Anderson------------- -----Wellbeck------Cleverly-------Young------ ---------------Berbatov-------------------
I prefer the first formation with Rooney up front on his own being supported on the wings by Nani and Young. This will give Young the taste of what is to be expected against big European teams. This will be the matchday thread so, please feel free to talk throughout the build-up to the match, during the match and after. Come on you reds!!!

Well, all I can hope for is that it is going to be a good match, in spite of the fact it is simply a friendly match with most of the spectacle taken out of it because Lionel Messi isn't playing. Oh well, we still have Anderson.

I hope to get a positive result today against barca whether it is a friendly or not..it would really help to get a positive result before the start of the season. I hope the midfield doesnt get run over again like in the final.

The official line-ups for both teams are as follows:
Manchester United: De Gea, Evra, Vidic, Evans, Rafael, Cleverley, Anderson, Young, Nani, Rooney, Welbeck
Barcelona FC : Valdes, Abidal, Fontas, Dos Santos, Alcantara, Iniesta, Keita, Busquets, Pedro, Villa, Afellay
With the look of that Barca side, they are playing with at least 6 full-time players and the rest are simply substitutes in other matches. Great to see Nani and Young on the wings, giving us some width, with hopefully Young giving a decent account of himself.

First brilliant ball by Young and Valdes gathers the ball up easily.

So far, Anderson isn't being that impressive. Let us hope he improves.

Rafael down and injured after a 50/50 with Keita. Let us hope he can continue.

Rafael clearly looks injured and I think it would be a good idea for him to be substituted.

Been called correctly. Rafael to go off and I guess he will be out for a few weeks. He will be replaced by his brother Fabio.

the match ends 2-1 in favor of Manchester United. Yes, it is a friendly, but the victory of Barcelona will ease my heart and will do the same for all Mancunians!! Roll on to the Scholes Testimonial and to CHAMP20NS for us!!

I have the feeling that this match will setup us good for the Community Shield against our noisy neighbours.
