Here is a thread I posted in another forum about our statistics until the after the 2nd game against Fulham. Please tell me what you think. Is it possible that the same players can equal or even surpass their statistics from last season?
I have created a spreadsheet for this seasons campaign with the usual assists/goals and other statistics to go with them. One thing though is troubling me, and that is Nani has been accorded 18 assists in the Premier league this season, yet on the Guardian Chalkboards, I counted no less than 13. So, if there are any errors, please feel free to correct me and I will make the necessary corrections to the spreadsheet. Now, here are some stats up until after the match with Fulham at Old Trafford:
There are 5 players who have got past the 1,000 pass mark this season in the Premier league, these are:
1,000+ passes:
The above statistics shows just how important our midfielders and defenders are. They are the ones with the majority of the ball and it is their job to keep the ball moving. It is surprising that even though Michael Carrick hasn't really been at his best this season, he is up there with Fletcher and Scholes as one who touches the ball most with either successful passes or unsuccessful passes.
The 5 best passers of the ball (%):
In spite of his sprightly 36 years, Paul Scholes is still showing that even though he hasn't got the legs anymore, he can still ping a ball with an accuracy of 89.9%. This means that he will find a teammate a majority of the time, and again Carrick is up there which is surprising. Nevertheless, whether it is a sideways pass/backpass, they all count as far as keeping the ball from the opposition is concerned. There in 4th place is Darron Gibson, which is a bit surprising considering a majority think that he cannot pass a ball to save his life, but in the few games he has played, he has succeeded in finding a teammate.
The 5 worst passers of the ball (%):
Now here is a surprising statistic, Ryan Giggs who has the worst percentage of pass success. He finds a teammate 64.1% of the time.
Top Goalscorers:
On the bench for the last few matches, our topscorer is non-other than Dimitar Berbatov with 21 goals. In second place, is the newcomer, Javier Hernandez, who has quickly adapted to the language, culture, the climate and the Premier league like a duck to water. He really has taken the Premier league by storm and can only get better.
Top Assists:
Now that Ronaldo has left us, it is upto Nani to pick up his game and take over from Ronnie. Well, with his goals and his assists, he really has taken the Premier league by the scruff of its neck. There is no doubt that he will be in the top 3 player of the year this season. Wayne Rooney has had a bad year, ever since March 2010 against Bayern. Yet, he has done the impossible and turned on his 'A' Game, and provided 11 assists, which is vital for the Manchester United cause.
Top 5 Interceptions:
What would we do without Vidic? The man is a rock in the heart of the defence. He can tackle, he can score, he can pass and outmuscle his opponents of equal size. He has intercepted no-less than 90 balls to make sure VDS keeps a clean sheet. Up there surprisingly is Rafael, another youngster who is getting better every single match he plays.
Top 5 tackle success rate (%)
With the very few matches that he has played, Gary Neville, even at his ripe old age, has got a great tackle success rate. He has managed to win 80% of his tackles, which is phenomenal. Fabio, again has a relatively good percentage, in spite of his young age and the inexperience of the premier league.
The 5 worst tacklers success rate (%)
What can we say? Javier Hernandez, in spite of his goalscoring prowess, has not got the best tackling skills with only 34.5% of his tackles being successful.
It is considered that Nani has been the player of the season for Manchester United and no-one can really dispute that. Since Ronaldo has gone, he really has upped his game a few notches, which is absolutely brilliant and we all hope that he can stay with us for next 10 years. Another player who has clearly shone this season, basically stepping up to the plate since he was made captain is Nemanja Vidic.
His stats are as follows:
The above stats show that he has been a total rock for us at the back, whilst at the same time, trying to offer something to Manchester United up front when he can. By the same token, a large number of Manchester United supporters have been against Wayne Rooney for what he did a few months ago. Everyone had doubts as to whether he could get back after his bad injury, bad world cup and the problems with his contract.
Well, even the best can have a bad day at the office and, he has turned his game around. He is no longer kicking the ball into row z, he is scoring goals and setting up goals. This is the Wayne Rooney of old, and it has come at the right time. So, let me be the first to say sorry for having any doubts as to whether he is committed to Manchester United earlier on in the season.
If there are any other stats you would like from the Premier league season, please feel free to ask and I will have a look at my data and see what I can do. In the mean time, please feel free to discuss the date and try and find out who has been the most influential/least influential player in the team thus far.
