The transfer window has finally ended. It had its highs (getting David de Gea, Phil Jones and Ashley Young and seeing them gel very quickly into the squad) and its lows (Owen Hargreaves surprisingly joining our bitter rivals Manchester City (why Owen why??!!) in our club).
Similiar experiences would be there in other clubs but I would leave it as it is. I did mention in a previous post that I would not discuss about it for the reason that Manchester City have spoiled the market using their newly-acquired money from their sugar-daddies. Many more are coming (PSG,Malaga etc.). I really hope the financial fair play is implemented without any hesitation on City to deter the other clubs from doing the same (the wages to the turnover ratio is nearing one so I've heard, around 80%).
Anzhi also started it with Eto'o. This transfer has ended leaving me despondent and apprehensive about the future of club football.

I think that's how we all feel. There's nothing wrong with money in football, so long as it is generated within the sport. Outside financing in my opinion is tantamount to cheating. Or at least it should be regarded as such. There is no incentive (and no means) to grow a club organically anymore.

Gone are the days where the owners of the club had the clubs interests at heart. I am sure Rob will agree with me, when I say that the days of your Jack Walkers and Doug Ellis have gone. Nowadays, the clubs just want to sell to the highest bidder without even realising what long-term damage will be done to the club in question. Many people hate the Glazers including myself, but if there is one thing I do like about them, and that is they stay away. They know the club is in capable hands, the team picks itself and the manager is someone who has brought them numerous victories in the Premier league and other trophy competitions.
I once made a point about this with regards to Platini and his hypocrisy. He has this thing about British clubs being in debt and how they shouldn't play in European competitions. Nice to know that the silence is deafening with regards to Paris Saint Germain and how they sold their souls.

Indeed. Jack Walker is a hero around Blackburn... look where the club is now. It is a shame really, although I know rovers tend to get a lot of stick from United fans. I always wondered why that was.
I'm a Glazer fan by the way. I think they are great owners.

I guess it's easy for us to say, though, since we support a club that is successful. Some supporters go twenty years without a trophy. I can see why that makes an outside investor more appealing.
However, what we are in support of is a more level playing field for everyone. I hope financial fair play is properly regulated, although I am sure it won't be. If it was the currently less successful clubs would have a far better chance at being competitive.

At the end of the day, I am sure Sir Alex doesn't want to have to look over his shoulder every 5 minutes a la Mourinho, Ancelotti, Scolari, Hiddink et al.
