PAUL SCHOLES could play his last competitive home game for Manchester United tomorrow. He has told close pals he does not want to go through another season as a bit-part player. And unless boss Alex Ferguson persuades him otherwise, this will be his last season. Scholes, 36, has started just over a third of Manchester United's games this season and has refused to agree to a one-year extension like Ryan Giggs. A close friend of Scholes said: "He does not want to go through next season just coming on as a sub for 15 minutes here and 20 minutes there." The midfielder, rated by many of his peers as one of the greatest ever, has played an incredible 674 games for United. It is the fourth highest in the club's history and he has also scored 150 goals. Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola said: "He is the best midfielder of his generation. I would have loved to have played alongside him." Ferguson will start him today in United's final league game at home to Blackpool. Scholes will then take part in Gary Neville's testimonial at Old Trafford next Tuesday. Scholes' last involvement with United is then set to be in the Champions League final when he will be on the bench. www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/3592849/Paul-Scholes-could-play-his-last-home-game-for-Manchester-United-tomorrow.html

I dont see scholes playing in the final and i am guessing he will retire along with Gary and VDS.. It would be really sad to see him go but i think his time is up and should follow in the light of GNev and call it a day on a high

On a personal note, Paul Scholes has been a brilliant player for us, and I do agree that he is a great player and great players do not want to be remembered for playing bit-part roles in their last season. Personally, if he should retire at the end of this season, then the last thing he wants is to bow out against Blackpool. If he should retire, then it should be against Barcelona in the final, either as one of the starting XI or, as a substitute.

I remember the last time he scored against Barcelona in the 2nd leg of the semi-final, and it was a belter. Should he do it again, then we will hopefully home and dry for our 4th European Cup/Champions league. Should this happen, then Sir Alex is sure to stay for as long as it takes to get the 5th. ;D

Fergie fancies scholes to have one more season in him.. Asked if tomorrow's final Barclays Premier League fixture with Blackpool will be Scholes' last Old Trafford appearance, Ferguson said: 'I don't think so. We will try to encourage him to stay on another year. We will talk at the end of the season..

Just as long as we don't celebrate it like the dippers have done for years. If we celebrate and use it to beat the dippers with, then I can only see "what comes around, goes around." We just need to celebrate it, but continue our banner with regards to Manchester City.

We have the ability to do that and the team stability to do that. If the likes of Anderson, Gibson, Welbeck et al can step up to the plate, then we have a great future.
