Finally, the England U-21 team had something to cheer about, after they drew 1-1 against Spain U-21. The Spanish goal came after 16 minutes, and England equalised in the 87th minute, through a goal by on-loan Manchester United striker, Danny Welbeck, who was put through by Walker. All in all, a very average match and now it is over, I can only see these two going through to the next stage.
The teams were:
Spain: De Gea, Montoya, Botia, Dominguez, Didac, Thiago, Javi Martinez, Ander, Mata, Adrian, Jeffren. Subs: Mino, Azpilicueta, San Jose, Parejo, Bojan, Diego Capel, Nsue, Jose Angel, Victor Ruiz, Ruben Perez, Muniain, Marino.
England: Fielding, Walker, Smalling, Jones, Bertrand, Cleverley, Henderson, Mancienne, Rose, Welbeck, Sturridge. Subs: McCarthy, Muamba, Albrighton, Sinclair, Tomkins, Cork, Lansbury, Rodwell, Delfouneso, Wickham, Steele.
Referee: Markus Strombergsson (Sweden)

Smalling was immense in defence..Jones looked decent too, they could be the future ManUtd defence De Gea looked ok too and the save he made in the 2nd half shows how quick he is between the posts.. Welbeck Cleverly looked decent enough..Looks a bright future for ManUtd

I watched the 2nd half of that match, and although Spain clearly outclassed us on the night, it was a very good experience for the youngsters. I agree that Smalling had a good game, but Jones needs to stop hoofing the ball upfield. He did it on at least 9 occasions in 30 minutes when there clearly was no need to. DeGea had a relatively quiet game but had no chance with the offside goal. Welbeck looked out of sorts until he scored in the 87th minute, and I must admit, he has a decent engine on him. The best player I thought last night for England, was the right-back, Walker. An absolutely brilliant player.
